Peirce also mentioned that the US Congress or the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) may address this issue.
SEC Acting Chairman Mark Uyeda announced last month that the SEC has established a cryptocurrency task force specifically responsible for "developing a comprehensive and clear regulatory framework for cryptocurrency assets," led by Hester Peirce, known as the "crypto mom" in the industry. She has stated that her current top priority is to determine which cryptocurrencies should be considered "non securities" in order to clarify the long-standing issue of whether cryptocurrencies are securities in the industry.
Peirce The latest comments contradict former SEC Chairman Gary Gensler's stance that the "vast majority" of cryptocurrencies are securities. Under Gensler's leadership, the SEC has taken enforcement actions against several major cryptocurrency companies, including Binance, Coinbase, and Kraken, many of which have complained that they have not received sufficient regulatory guidance to effectively comply with the rules.
Peirce stated that in the past few years, the SEC has used enforcement cases to formulate regulatory policies, which is "very atypical". She said during the interview:
We have been setting up numerous obstacles to prevent those who try to engage in dialogue with us. So what I demand is that we have new policies that allow people to innovate and try new things
